SBE Series Encapsulated Copper Wound Transformers

Wallco Inc. is a factory authorized SolaHD distributor offering the complete line of SBE Series Encapsulated Copper Wound Transformers for industrial control panels, machine control, OEM equipment, automation systems, and industrial machinery. The SBE Series is engineered to deliver reliable secondary voltage during the high inrush conditions created by contactors, relays, solenoids, motor starters, and other electromagnetic control devices.

SolaHD SBE Series Encapsulated Copper Wound Transformers feature interleaved copper windings, epoxy encapsulation, and a 55°C temperature rise to help protect the transformer core and coils from moisture, dirt, dust, oil, and other industrial contaminants. Available in ratings from 50 VA through 1000 VA, these transformers provide excellent voltage regulation while helping extend the life of nearby electrical components by minimizing heat inside the control panel.

The SBE Series is available in multiple primary and secondary voltage configurations to support a wide range of industrial control applications. Optional factory-installed fuse holder configurations and finger-safe accessories provide additional flexibility for machine builders, panel shops, OEMs, and industrial automation systems.

How to Select an SBE Encapsulated Control Transformer

Selecting the correct SolaHD SBE transformer begins with identifying the available primary voltage, required secondary voltage, operating frequency, total sealed VA, and total inrush VA of the control circuit. Industrial control devices such as contactors, relays, solenoids, and motor starters can draw several times their normal operating current when first energized, so the transformer must provide sufficient inrush capacity while maintaining dependable secondary voltage.

The transformer's continuous VA rating must meet or exceed the total steady-state load of all devices that may remain energized simultaneously. The selected model must also provide enough inrush performance for every electromagnetic device that may energize at the same time.

SBE Series Voltage Configuration Groups

SolaHD organizes the SBE Encapsulated Series into five electrical configuration groups. Each group identifies a specific combination of primary voltage, secondary voltage, and frequency. The catalog number then identifies the transformer VA rating and electrical configuration.

Group Primary Voltage Secondary Voltage Frequency Example
Group 1 120 × 240 VAC 24 VAC 60 Hz E050E
Group 2 220 × 440, 230 × 460, or 240 × 480 VAC 110, 115, or 120 VAC 50/60 Hz or 60 Hz, depending on the applied voltage E050
Group 3 240 × 480 VAC 24 VAC 60 Hz E050D
Group 4 208, 240, or 277 VAC 120 or 24 VAC 60 Hz E050JL
Group 5 208, 240, 480, or 600 VAC; also 200, 230, 460, or 575 VAC 120 or 24 VAC; also 115 or 23 VAC 60 Hz E050JN

Understanding SBE Catalog Numbers

The letters within the SBE catalog number identify the electrical configuration. For example, E050, E050E, E050D, E050JL, and E050JN are all 50 VA transformers, but they provide different primary-voltage and secondary-voltage combinations. Always select the complete catalog number that matches the application's voltage and frequency requirements.

SBE Factory-Installed Fuse-Holder Options

Certain Group 1 and Group 2 models are available with factory-installed primary fuse holders and different secondary fuse-holder configurations. The suffix at the end of the catalog number identifies the factory-installed option.

Option Configuration Finger-Safe Covers
Standard Model Standard encapsulated transformer with the applicable secondary fuse-holder provisions for that model No
W Option Factory-installed Class CC rejection-type primary fuse holder with a midget-style secondary fuse-holder configuration; secondary assembly may be required No
WA Option Factory-installed Class CC primary fuse holder with a Type 3AG glass or ceramic secondary fuse holder Yes
WB Option Factory-installed Class CC primary fuse holder with a midget-style secondary fuse holder Yes

Fuses are not included. Not every suffix is offered for every VA rating, so the complete catalog number should be confirmed before ordering.

SBE Accessories

Accessory Description
FB2 Field-installed secondary fuse-holder kit for one 1/4 × 1-1/4 inch Type 3AG glass or ceramic fuse
FB2X Secondary fuse holder for one 13/32 × 1-1/2 inch midget-type cartridge fuse on applicable transformer models
FBP Field-installed primary fuse-holder kit for two Class CC rejection-type fuses
FBPC1 Primary fuse block and finger-safe cover kit for two Class CC rejection-type fuses
IP20 Field-installed primary and secondary IEC touch-proof terminal cover kit
SBEDIN DIN-rail adapter kit for mounting an IEC circuit breaker

Accessory compatibility depends on the transformer model and electrical configuration. Group 4 and Group 5 models accept one FB2 secondary fuse holder and do not accept the FB2X secondary fuse holder.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between E050, E050E, E050D, E050JL, and E050JN?

Each is a 50 VA SBE transformer, but each catalog number belongs to a different voltage configuration group. The available primary voltage, secondary voltage, and connection arrangement vary by model.

What do the W, WA, and WB suffixes mean?

The suffix identifies the factory-installed fuse-holder configuration. W models include a Class CC primary fuse-holder arrangement without finger-safe covers. WA models use a Type 3AG secondary fuse holder with covers, while WB models use a midget-style secondary fuse holder with covers.

Are fuses included?

No. Fuse holders may be included or factory installed depending on the catalog number, but the actual fuses are not included.
