SolaHD Non-Ventilated Automation Transformers

SolaHD Automation Transformers provide dependable voltage transformation and electrical isolation for industrial machinery, automation systems, control equipment and other applications exposed to dust, moisture, shock or vibration. Their rugged non-ventilated construction makes them well suited for installations where a standard ventilated transformer may not provide adequate environmental protection.

The series includes single-phase transformers from 50 VA through 25 kVA and three-phase transformers from 3 kVA through 45 kVA. Smaller 50 VA through 250 VA single-phase models use a totally enclosed, non-ventilated design, while 500 VA through 45 kVA models are encapsulated with electrical-grade silica and epoxy for demanding industrial applications.

Standard models are available with numerous primary and secondary voltage combinations, including common 120, 208, 240, 277, 480 and 600 volt systems. Depending on the catalog number, available configurations include rolled-steel or painted stainless-steel enclosures, copper windings, electrostatic shielding and export-rated designs.

About SolaHD Automation Transformers

SolaHD non-ventilated automation transformers are designed for industrial applications where dependable power conversion and environmental protection are important. They are commonly used with machinery, production equipment, automation systems, control panels, material-handling equipment, packaging systems and other industrial loads.

Single-Phase Automation Transformers

Single-phase models are available from 50 VA through 25 kVA. The 50 VA through 250 VA models use a UL Listed/NEMA Type 3R, totally enclosed non-ventilated enclosure suitable for indoor and outdoor service. These smaller models use copper lead-wire terminations and a low-temperature-rise insulation system.

Single-phase models from 500 VA through 25 kVA use rugged encapsulated construction. The transformer core and coil are encapsulated with electrical-grade silica and epoxy to help protect against moisture, dust, shock and vibration in industrial environments.

Three-Phase Automation Transformers

Three-phase models are available from 3 kVA through 45 kVA. These transformers are offered with numerous common industrial voltage configurations, including delta primary and wye or delta secondary arrangements.

Models rated 1 kVA and larger are electrostatically shielded to help reduce the transfer of electrical noise between the primary and secondary circuits. Standard three-phase models use copper lead-wire terminations and rugged encapsulated construction.

  • Indoor and outdoor industrial installations
  • Dusty, damp or vibration-prone environments

How to Select an Automation Transformer

Begin by confirming the available source voltage and the voltage required by the connected load. Next, determine whether the application uses single-phase or three-phase power and identify the required transformer capacity in VA or kVA.

For single-phase loads, transformer capacity may be calculated using:

kVA = Volts × Amps ÷ 1,000

For three-phase loads, transformer capacity may be calculated using:

kVA = Volts × Amps × 1.732 ÷ 1,000

Select a transformer with a kVA rating equal to or greater than the connected load. Frequency must also match the application because a transformer changes voltage but does not change frequency.

Information Needed for Selection

  • Available primary voltage
  • Required secondary voltage
  • Single-phase or three-phase power
  • Operating frequency
  • Required VA or kVA capacity
  • Indoor or outdoor installation
  • Required enclosure material and NEMA rating
  • Ambient temperature and altitude
  • Hazardous-location requirements, if applicable
  • Required certifications or export approvals

Enclosures and Optional Configurations

Standard models are available in cold-rolled steel or painted stainless steel, depending on the catalog number. Optional designs may include 316 stainless steel, copper windings, low-temperature designs and UL Listed/NEMA Type 4/12 or 4X encapsulated enclosures.

Configured cULus Listed models may also be available for Class I, Division 2/Zone 2 hazardous locations. Hazardous-location suitability depends on the exact transformer design, catalog number, certification and installation method, so the required classification should be confirmed before ordering.

Certifications and Compliance

Applicable models are listed under UL files E25872 and E77014 and may comply with UL 1561 or UL 5085-1 and UL 5085-2, CSA C22.2 No. 47 or No. 66, and RoHS requirements. Certain export models also meet applicable Low Voltage Directive and IEC 61558 requirements.

Certifications vary by model and configuration. Always review the individual product specifications and datasheet before ordering or installing the transformer.
